Sensation Cosmos

Originally native to Mexico, the seeds were brought to Europe by conquering Spaniards in the 1500s. Through the years the seeds made their way to the UK in the 18th century and then returned back to North America. In the intervening years cosmos were bred to thrive in colder climates. Sensation variety was introduced in 1930 and took 56 days to flower which allowed gardeners in northern zones to grow these flowers. The mix of single blooms in white, pink, and cherry red became a hit and these reliable annuals have remained a cottage garden staple since then.
