Fordhook Zucchini
Cucurbirta pepo
Developed by Burpee Seeds on their Fordhook Farm in the 1940s. This heritage variety is an exceptionally large bush type plant measuring 5 feet across. Leave have bright silver markings which is quite attractive. Produces smooth dark green fruit with firm white flesh. Less productive than hybrids but I found this wasn’t necessarily a bad attribute and the squash kept longer into the winter.
Growing Information
60 days to maturity. 7 days to germinate.
Start indoors and transplant after risk of frost has passed and soil has warmed. Plant in full sun. Feed with manure or compost. Large plants measure 5 feet across at maturity so give them lots of room to grow.
