Cornflowers
Centaurea cyanus
This classic flower is native to Europe, where they were often found, before the use of herbicides, throughout cornfields. Also commonly called a “Bachelor’s Button” due to the practice of young men wearing cornflowers in the buttonhole of their suit. This blend is a mix of blue, pink, and white. They are an easy to grow annual which can be direct seeded in early spring or late fall. Once the flowers start, they will bloom all summer long attracting pollinators and butterflies. Foliage is a soft grey green and plants reach 3 feet tall. Sturdy and healthy plants stand up well in wind.
