Butterbush Squash
Cucurbita moschata
Bred by the W. Atlee Burpee Company in 1978 these compact vines average 5-6 feet long and produce a slightly smaller fruit than the usual butternut squash. There is some variation in size and shape but overall fruit is prolific with a half dozen fruits per vine. It has sweet orange flesh with small seed cavities. Good for smaller gardens and northern gardens as plants mature quicker. Also demonstrates good resistance to powdery mildew.
