Gilia tricolor

This California native wildflower features unique blooms in shades of lavender and violet with a striking purple and yellow throat. The charming 

petite flowers cover 2 foot high, fern leafed plants. Very popular with pollinators, the flower are highly scented and said to be reminiscent of chocolate. Makes an excellent filler flower in the garden or in pots.

 

Gilia grows to a height of 12-18 inches high. Direct seed in the garden and it will bloom from spring right through summer and into the fall if kept watered. Prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade.

    17-21 days to germinate.  60-75 days to maturity. Annual. 

    Direct sow in early spring has passed.  Lightly cover with soil. Thin seedlings to 6 inches apart. Use this cool season plant as a filler flower. Continuous blooms as long as plants are kept moist.
